Consultation on religious civil partnerships

Sunday, 10th April 2011

The government has begun a consultation in respect of allowing civil partnerships on religious premises.

Presently, the Civil Partnership Act 2004 prohibits civil partnerships from being carried out in places of worship. The government is committed to this change, but it would not oblige any religious venue to host a civil partnership if the religion is opposed to it.
